Description
The Burley Manor Hotel is the jewel in the crown of the New Forest
and throughout its long history, Burley Manor has enjoyed many
regal connections.
Parts of the estate were probably laid out in Saxon times and must
have existed before the Domesday Book was compiled in 1086. Later,
for nearly 200 years, Burley was a Royal Manor. The current
building was erected in 1852, but it was a further 80 years before
the house became a hotel, when a restaurant and bedroom wing were
added. During World War Two, the hotel was requisitioned and used
as a military headquarters by Lord Montgomery and his chiefs of
staff.
Over the past 25 years the baronial-style hotel has been
considerably upgraded and refurbished, the most recent additions
being a brand new wing of luxurious premier rooms and a
conservatory extension to the restaurant. Burley has 38 spacious
and elegant en-suite bedrooms, including some with four-poster
beds. All are fully equipped with electric trouser press, hair
dryer, colour television and tea and coffee-making facilities.
The hotel has a relaxing ambience with modern comfortable
amenities and several leisure activities. The large lounge is
packed with antiques - such as a box where gentlemen can deposit
their swords before dining - and is warmed by a blazing log fire.
Grand bay windows overlook the stunning scenery - a magnificent
old cedar tree alongside the croquet lawn; outdoor swimming pool,
heated in the summer; and a paddock where a herd of New Forest
deer graze.
The delightful restaurant, with its superb fireplace and views
over the landscaped gardens, serves a variety of traditional
cuisine and is extremely popular locally. The Victorian-style
conservatory adjoining the restaurant gives the impression guests
are dining alfresco.
Burley Manor has its own stables with horses suitable for novices
to the more experienced riders.
The Hotel has self-contained meeting facilities, the largest
seating up to a maximum of 60 delegates.
The picturesque village of Burley - a collection of tea rooms,
antique and curiosity shops - is a short walk away.
